Are you an expat in Qatar who recently got married or still have your maiden name and would like to update your passport, but you just can't because of not getting enough information regarding the requirements and procedures on how to change your name as well in the Residence Permit? Well, we were on the same boat then, until I decided to go for it.

Since I was not able to get specific information on this process (even in the internet), I have to spend a lot of riyals for the back and forth transportation just to get the requirements done completely. I DO NOT WANT YOU TO MAKE THE SAME MISTAKES I DID!

To make sure that you get things right in the first attempt, here are the documents you need to acquire before proceeding to the Ministry of Interior Qatar in Al Gharaffa.

1. Applicant’s New Passport Copy (Married Name)

2. Applicant’s Residence Permit Copy (present - still maiden name)

3. Marriage Certificate Copy
  • NSO Authenticated with Red Ribbon from Philippines
  • Attested from Philippine Embassy (QAR 100/-) & Ministry of Foreign Affairs (QAR 100/-) in Qatar

4. Original Letter written in Arabic stating the reason for changing your name (old and new names should be mentioned in English letters)
  • you can get this from typing centers or let your Arabic friend type the letter for you
  • affix your signature in the letter

5. 2x2 Picture with blue background (1pc.)

6. Original Form (Application for Modifying Resident's Details)
download the file below
  • Can be downloaded from the MOI website
  • Should bear your company/ sponsor's stamp and signature

7. Company Registration Card Copy

8. Husband’s Passport Copy

9. Husband’s Residence Permit Copy (if husband is also a Resident of Qatar)

Once the above are accomplished, submit the documents in MOI at Al Gharaffa, "Committee Into Looking For Change Name Requests" Office, 2nd floor of Bldg. 2, gate/ entrance 2 or 3.

Requirements complete? Check the Detailed Procedures for Qatar ID & Residence Permit Name Change.

Great. Thank you for your fast response, also I want to ask if you have an Idea if I need to get my marriage certificate stamp again from the PH embassy and MOFA as I already have it done back in 2014 as it was required for my husband's company. Cheers

Hi, this post is very helpful! Thank you for sharing this. I just have some questions. Is the NOC required? I saw from your previous post that you requested for an NOC from your company but did not mention it here. Also, for requirement number 4, is there any format for the arabic letter, or can I just address it to the Ministry? Thanks again!

Where will I go to get the company's stamp and signature in the downloaded MOI form? I work in Women's hospital (HMC) and I went to our HR office but they said they don't do the stamping. Thanks!

Hi Anne,

Strange, how come your HR will tell you that they don't do the stamping when it's them who should be doing it? Do you have immigration dept. in the company, or at least a PRO? if yes, you can check with them.

Cheers!

Hi Lyn,

Married to single means you are also changing name, but not sure what will be the replacement for attested marriage contract (attested CENOMAR maybe??), all other documents and procedures are same.

Hope this helps.

Cheers!
